The house projects follow a pattern. A cleanout — your own, or an estate after a family member passes — where decades of belongings leave over one long weekend. A remodel that turns a kitchen or bathroom into a pile of cabinets, drywall, and old flooring. A pre-move purge when the closing date makes every decision easier. Storm damage that fills a yard with debris overnight. In every case the math is the same: debris will accumulate over days, and hauling it a carload at a time would eat the whole project.

For most of these, the sizing conversation starts at the 20-yard box — long enough for furniture and cabinet runs, low enough to load by hand all day. Single-room jobs and dense loads drop to the 15; whole-property cleanouts with a packed basement and attic step up to the 30.

The driveway is the whole placement plan

At a house, the box lives on your driveway, and that keeps things simple — no street permit, no traffic questions, and the container sits where you load it straight from the garage door. What we need from you is the honest state of that driveway: the clear length, the surface, the slope, gates, low limbs, and overhead lines on the approach. Mark what has to stay reachable for the rental window — garage bays, meters, a shared drive — and warn everyone in the house that the parking spot is spoken for. A loaded container does not scoot over.

After the water: flood tear-outs

This market has fresh experience here. The National Weather Service documented historic rainfall and flooding across the Louisville area April 2–6, 2025, with the Ohio River cresting near 37 feet on April 9 — and that was the second flood event of 2025, after February. In river-adjacent and low-lying neighborhoods on both sides of the water, the aftermath is a gut-it-now job: wet drywall, buckled floors, insulation, and ruined contents all leaving at once. Know your city options too

Not every home job needs a rented box, and we would rather tell you that on the phone than have you find out after paying. Louisville Metro runs large-item collection for approved household items, and Jefferson County residents can self-haul loads — including construction debris — to the city's Waste Reduction Center on Meriwether Avenue. What those programs do not take through regular collection is construction and demolition debris, which is exactly what remodels produce. If your pile is a couch and a few bags, use the city services. If it is a kitchen on the floor or a whole house emptying, the roll-off wins on trips alone.

Pull the hazardous items first

Before anyone loads, walk the garage and basement shelves. Motor oil, batteries, gasoline, chemicals, oil-based paint, pesticides, and solvents belong at Louisville's Haz Bin facility at 7501 Grade Lane, not in the container. Yard waste is banned from landfills across Jefferson County outside compost facilities, so brush stays out of the household load too.
